Introduction:

The Nawakadal Government College is one of the oldest colleges of Kashmir established in the year 1961 so was the Central Library of the College. College is maintaining its Library in order to support college’s diverse curriculum. The library supports the academic community in carrying out teaching learning and research activities. The central Library is presently housed in the main building of the college on the second floor. Library caters to all the students and faculty members of the College to pursue their study and research.

Scope and importance:

The Library aims at providing necessary information and making them available to all beneficiaries in the appropriate time. The central library is very rich in collection pertaining to different fields viz, medical, non- medical, Arts, humanities, commerce, languages. The total collection of the library along with the 10 departmental Libraries is 57,300 which comprises of Text books, References, Journals, E-resources. The Library serves the users of the following subjects: General English, Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, History, Education, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Urdu, Economics, Commerce, Computer Applications, BBA, Biotechnology, Home Science, Travel Tourism, Kashmiri, Environmental Science, Music, Statistics, Arabic, Persian, English Literature, Hindi, Sericulture, Mass Media, Islamic Studies, Clinical Bio-Chemistry, M. Com, M.Sc. & MBA.

OBJECTIVES:

1.To help the parent body in fulfilling its objectives.

2.To promote the reading habits.

3.To provide necessary information to all its beneficiaries in appropriate time.

4.To acquire, organize and maintain its well-balanced collection of curriculum related books and reference books in printed format.

5.To facilitate internet access to all its beneficiaries.

6.To provide current materials that will support and enrich class assignments and projects.

7.Accessibility to E – resources.

Acquisition

  • Acquisition Section is assigned the job to receive the requisition of different departments.
  • After receiving the requisition, the requisition is forwarded to the concerned sections, who procure the books.
  • On receiving the books from the suppliers, books are recorded on Accession Register by the Lib.Asst. with Accession Number.
  • After Accession Number, Classification of books is done followed by Labeling and Tagging.

 

Organization of information Resources:

  • After selecting the resources, they are to be organized.
  • Organization is done subject wise and DDC (Dewey decimal classification) is issued as a tool for classification,
